Owner's manual 250 wide-case

Here's what I understand to be the situation. Complicated and really pretty dull. You have been warned :D .

To the best of my knowledge:
Ducati never published an owner's manual that was SOLELY for the w/c 250. They did for the 350, but even then only for the Scrambler. But not so for the w/c 250.

Instead they published a manual that covered both the 250 and the 350 (and eventually, the 450 too).

The first FULL version of this appeared in 1970 and looked like this:

Before 1970, they published a confusing series of what were entitled "Annexes". Again, these covered both the 250 and the 350 models that were in production at the time of publishing. They came out in May 1968, June 1968 and 1969. Here's the May 1968 version:

These Annexes contain little of much use: a photo of each model, followed by a page of "Main Distinctive specifications", a page with basic timing, ignition and carb info and, for some reason unknown, a schematic drawing of the gear ratios.

They were meant to be read in conjunction with a particular version of the full owners' manual. The May 1968 example above, for example, was intended as an annexe to the 350 Scrambler owner's handbook. Same for the June 1968 Annexe. Dunno about the 1969 version, but probably the same.

HTH - if you've managed to get this far ....

As I understand the 350 Scrambler was always a W/C bike. If there was a manual solely for this model, why would there be an annex in May of '68. Like I said, I've never seen any of these manuals and they interest me only because I have a registered '71 model Scrambler.

Correct.

There was. Here it is:

Because the May 1968 Annexe doesn't itself cover the 350 Scrambler. It's only described as an Annexe to the 350 Scrambler manual. ("Confused? You will be ...")

What it actually covers is the 250 Monza, Mark 3, Mark 3 Desmo and Scrambler. And the 350 Sebring, Mark 3 and Mark 3 Desmo - but NOT the 350 Scrambler.

Ah! Different beast. For a 1971 350 Scrambler, you're looking for this. Published in June 1970, it covers the Mark 3, Mark 3 Desmo and the Scrambler.

Wow, very informative. I don't suppose I'll ever see one of those at a reasonable price.

I dug through some of my stuff and found a workshop manual for the 250's with an annex for the 'new' W/C bikes. I also found (and I apologize for referring to the previous thread) workshop manual for Montjuich, F1 and also a supplement for the Laguna Seca.

After years of collecting stuff, you never know what you're going to find.

Despair not! If ever I see one, I'll give you a 'Heads Up'.

Ducati chose not to issue a full factory manual for the w/c models.

Instead they issued a "Supplement to Workshop Manual", the workshop manual referred to being this, the January 1966 edition:
Factory late.jpg

This is the Supplement:
Factory late supplement.jpg

The models covered are 250, 350 and 450 Mark 3, Mark 3 Desmo and Scrambler; and the 250 Monza.

On the inside front cover, this Supplement is somewhat confusingly entitled - and I quote - "5-speed Ducati single overhead camshaft motorcycles". It also claims there were editions for 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970. But all those I have seen carry the same print date of December 1969 (don't ask ...).

These two manuals - the January 1966 Workshop manual + Supplement - were subsequently re-printed in a single volume. This can have either a blue or a grey cover. Here's the grey:

And then there's the Floyd Clymer reprints, Tom Bailey's book, the Haynes etc ...

Yes, I have the last one pictured with the grey cover. If you have all of those shown, you have quite the library. :)
