My understanding is that the Desmo operation did not produce any significant power improvement ,only an ability to rev higher than the motors could use with the poor breathing and accelerated crank wear. Tom Baileys Book says the fastest stock Ducati single of any capacity was the 250 Narrow case without desmo. Don't look down on the lowly valve spring motor!!.

For road use, I feel the biggest practical advantage of desmo is safety. An accidental hyper-redline situation, as can happen with a false or unintended neutral and a wide open throttle, could spell doom with a standard sprung head. Desmo prevents valves from hitting each other or the piston.
Less important, but intriguing nevertheless, is the possibility with desmo to remove the valve springs altogether. That would lessen friction and wear on the valve train parts. Rocker bushes and spindles, valves, guides, etc.
Not many fans of this, due to mistaken view that without springs starting necessarily becomes difficult.

That carb looks pretty rough from the picture and it looks broken as well.
also its a "SS 27 A" not a "SSI27D" like it should be. I don't know what that would come on but not a 66 Scrambler.
it should look like the picture below but be a 27 instead of a 29.
you will likely need another carb.(not that it wouldnt work, but it looks broken and worn out to me)

I ended up getting a complete ssi27 carb off of ebay for 150$ The intake to the motor is smaller, and the carb sits sloppy on therre, so I'm guessing just find a new intake piece.

I found a complete 350 scrambler and I'm so geeked out! It'll be nice to have something to compare to

there should be a fiber sleave there, it goes between the carb and the manifold stub, do you have that?

Not to hijack, but does anyone have a Dellorto SS27A carb for sale? I need one that is in good condition or better.

I do not believe there is. The other ss27 carb slid right on to the intake piece that was bolted onto the motor and the ssi27 that I just picked up fits sloppy

I've never seen a SSI with a fiber sleeve, only on VHB carbs, people might use the sleeve to fit a larger carb to a smaller intake... to my knowledge, SSI from 25 to 30mm fit on 3 different outer diameter manifold: 28.6mm 31.7 and 35mm
could you check the diameter of your manifold?
Don't get rid of the SS carb, they share a lot (pretty much all but the body) with SSI, and it's not because it is dirty that it is not in usable condition anymore.
