Motorscycle shippers in USA?

Postby sebouh » Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:35 pm

Hello,
I just picked up this GT off of Ebay. I have been looking for one for a long-time. I now need to get it from Hollywood to Chicago. Any recommendations on Motorcycle shippers in the USA.

Thanks.

RARE Pre-1966 '250GT' Duke-model

Postby DewCatTea-Bob » Fri Feb 22, 2013 12:30 am

" I just picked up this GT off of Ebay. "

____ NICE find ! _ And it looks to be an exceptionable example as well.
That's possibly the rarest Duke-model, as not only was I never able to find one for myself, I've never even seen one (all together in running-condition) in person.

" I have been looking for one for a long-time. "

____ By "one", did you mean ANY model-year of '250GT', or specifically a pre-1966 GT-model ?
What model-year is THIS 250GT which you've so luckily chanced-upon, 1965 ?
I assume it's a 5-speed model, what's it's motor-number ?
What makes the pre-66 GT most unique is that it employs a (rather extra-small) 33mm intake-valve ! _ And unlike the post-1965 GT-version, it also has a unique GT-camshaft -(color-code: 'Black').
Also, the pre-66 GT came-stock with fairly high 45/18t gearing, (intended for improved highway-touring gas-mileage & vibe-reduction).
(The post-65 GT-version was nothing more than a re-designated Monza !)
__ Was your GT listed on eBay as an auction ? _ If so, do you care to mention what the end-price ended-up being ?

" Any recommendations on Motorcycle shippers in the USA. "

____ I once met the bike-transporter who DucatiMadMan has used, and that fellow seemed well suited enough.

____ I've added an enlarged version of your picture so that it's now possible (with 2-clicks) to have a much closer look-see at various details of the (presumably restored) 250GT.

Duke-Cheers,
-Bob

In the eBay listing, there's a "SHIPPING" tab. Click on it and it will give you 3 quotes to your zip code. Use a company that has their own trucks and drivers and not a broker. Search the internet for companies that move high end motorcycles. Be sure to check the BBB and internet for complaints against the company. Don't look for people praising the mover as those are probably paid writers. (There's an internet name for it that I can't remember).

Nice Find! I have a pair of 200 GTs and would love to find a 250 as well.

I have had success using the following companies for shipping...

Evergreen Motorsports - Jay Abbruscato. He is out of Denver and has shipped many bikes for me.

Eagle One Transport - Shipped a few bikes out and was absolutely professional.

BevelHeaven has a link to a shipper that charges $603.

Most shippers have a motorcycle service that picks up your bike and secures it to a palet right at the seller's location. They arrive with a lift gate since there won't be a loading dock at most seller's locations (residence) and they will deliver to you with a liftgate truck to your home.

I have two other mid-sixties scramblers and a parts pile of a monza. But I love the look of the GT. I paid 6650 for this bike. I checked the engine number on bevel heaven and it is for a GT. It looks like it is a little bit of rust on the left side of frame. But otherwise looks intact.

These are some more pictures.

I bought a bike on the other side of the country last March. Haulbikes.com was one of the ebay recommendations, and was also strongly recommended by the seller. I couldn't have been happier with the competitive pricing and how careful they were with my new toy. No crating or special prep is required. The only downside was that it took about three weeks to arrive. They run their own trucks, and won't start a cross-country trip until the truck is full. But they were up front about that fact and did a good job of keeping me informed the entire time. I would use them again with no reservations.
