Whenever I-myself would see a gust of dust created over the road ahead, I'd then just shut-down the throttle & pull-in the clutch, and cost through it until I was through the dust-cloud. _ Also avoid following other traffic too closely, especially trucks.

____ To get an idea of what's been going into your engine after a ride with just an inlet-stack, you could try coating the inside of your trumpet-stack with thick-grease,, as it will capture a slight sample of the dust which entered.

The 450 hose will not work for you, the hose is too long and carb opening too big. You can buy a side box hose from guzzino. Here is a link that shows both:

Well to answer some of the previous comments on my filter issue.......
I tried the 450 air tube kindly sent to me, but while the one smaller end would make a nice tight fit at the air box....the other larger end even if cut, will no way seal at the carb. I`m sending the unmolested tube back to Jim.
As for the tube sold on the Guzzino site, it states with an underline that it is only for the `65 and will not work with my beautiful square style `66 side cover.
A K&N was my first choice but I couldn`t find a size short enough to not foul the air box or frame. The shortest ones are then too big around.
On the subject or velosity stacks, I can`t get comfy with the idea. It`s just that you see so many bikes with them in the on line pics and in the manuals. I have a beautiful one that maybe I`ll put on if I ever put the bike in a local show !
The solution I`ve come up with is a Ram Air foam filter. I purchased one from their UK web site and it fits the carb perfect. It`s short and the perfect size to clear the frame and air box. Plus being foam, if it does make contact it won`t matter. And I like the look of it as a bonus !

Agreed that the K&N is the way to go.
DewCaTea Bob - I will post a pick, I did put the UBF carb on my 4-speed Diana 250 with the more round air box. I decided to tear-down the engine and it is in the process of getting a complete rebuild. Carb worked great and the engine ran great but some noises led me to a new crank and head/valve work.

____ Well that's of-course true if the end that's designed to fit the 1965-style side-cover is left unaltered just exactly as it is...
However if that designed-end were to be cut off from that '65-type hosing, then the remainder would become pretty-much the same as the plane design of the air-hose that's intended for fitting the later Monza-model.

As you can tell I`m a novice in the Ducati world. I apreciate you sharing this info. I`ve never seen what an original `66 hose should look like so I have nothing to go by except what the seller says on the site.
If you`re certain a modified `65 monza hose will work with my later air box, then I think I`ll give it a try. I`d prefer to keep the machine as close to original as I can.
The 450 hose was way too big to be made to work no matter how it would be configured or chopped up.
Anyone who can use a stock 450 hose, send a PM and I will be happy to pass in on....no charge.

____ I know it's been done before (by someone I knew back in the late '60s) ! _ But if I-myself had to fit the pre-66 hose to a post-65 Monza, then instead of cutting-off the end that doesn't fit (the newer side-cover), I'd first TRY to insert that "designed" (as opposed to "plain") end through/into the side-cover,, as having that extra length inserted/sticking-inside, really shouldn't hurt anything. _ That should be doable if the rubber is still flexible enough to be squeezed-through the hole-opening.
__ However if you really care about really good air-filteration,, the stock-setup is not really sealed-off very well (at either connection-end of the air-hose), and also the stock-filter is not all that good either. _ So that which you had settled-on, would likely do a better job of keeping all dust out.

I just measured my '65 Sebring air intake hose. Inside the bellows end where it fits onto the carb is a sort of a built in reducer/seat. The bellows at the air box end is oval and fits over a lip on the air box. If you were to cut off the oval portion of the air intake hose at the end of the bellows, the air hose length would be 3 1/4". The O.D. of the bellows at the point of cut off would be 2 1/2". What is the diameter of your '66 Monza air box hole?
