Let's begin a long journey

Postby OzDucNut » Thu Mar 22, 2012 4:32 pm

I'm posting this so that I'll feel guilty if it doesn't happen.
After so many years (I'm embarrassed to mention how many) I'll begin to post the resurrection of my 350 Desmo.
Having eventually tracked down the fork tubes that have held me back for so long, the real work now begins.
I'm very lucky to have one of the best Ducati engineers and race specialists in Australia (Pete Smith "Epicycle") as a fellow "Bello" local. BTW "Bello" is what we call our small, but growing, town of Bellingen. Mid North Coast, New South Wales, Australia.

Have ordered some essentials from the US (our high dollar value at the moment really helps) and can hardly wait for them to arrive.
Then the motor will go to Pete for a complete rebuild. A local friend is a great spray painter and I will use his skill to get the frame in good order. I also have one of the best chromeplaters in the country in Coffs Harbour (about 35 kms away). What more could I ask?

Well,, I still need a master panel beater who can repair the two tanks that I have to complete the masterpiece. I'll only use one tank at a time though, promise!

Ok, having trouble with attachments so will leave it there. will post more pics when I can work out how

That smooth steering crown and those short headlight stanchions are only getting rarer with every passing year. Thankfully those are two things you don't have yet to source or your project might still be years from starting.

We are all looking forward to photos of your progress.

Does Pete still have his old 500 parallel twin race bike, do you know?

Will ask him when next we meet. I only ever saw him race a TL650 (probably bored out to bigger capacity)

Try another pic.

I have 2 front hubs for 350 desmo which have 6 and 12 ribs. Help required to identify them and which is best? Would assume 12 rib is stronger but heavier. each has same diameter and No. of spokes. Any opinions please?

Began to give a rough buff to the alloy parts. This is only the first cut and will improve from here.
