Yes and no. The shorter one will be stiffer (relative to the amount of travel/compression) but in this case the spring is contained in a set amount of space so shortening it creates less preload so less force applied.

Many of us here have contrary tendencies so you should fit right in ;)...

here is a small modification that makes assembling the selectorbox a whole lot easyer .

machine a groove for a circlip to hold the bridge in place that goes over the spring
and machine a small recess for the circlip in the cover
