MACH I red

Postby AIRMANBLUE » Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:24 am

Did the factory produce the Mach 1in different shades of red? I attatch a photo of my 1966 Mach 1which has not been restored or repainted
which is orange red . Other Mach 1s are bright red. Any ideas?

The ACTUAL Red-color of the Mach-I Model

Postby DewCatTea-Bob » Fri Feb 24, 2012 5:54 am

" Any ideas? "

____ Is it exactly the very same orangish-red on ALL sides ?
If not, I'd think that sunlight has somewhat bleached-out some of the darker redness on the more-exposed areas of the original red-paint.
However I-myself have never owned a Mach-I, so I really can't vouch for it's real/exact shade of red, (sorry!).

My Mark 3 (restored) looks orangy red and the paint was Ford Radiant red. The silver was a honda car finish, looks great (to me!) but may not be accurate . You will get the chance to see it soon . Bob.

When I found my Mach 1 some areas that were more exposed to the elements were a sort of a tomato soup (orange-ish red) color. It needed paint so I opted for a red red.

I have seen other red Mach 1s, some restored and some not.

Maybe the paint of the era was more prone to changing hue with UV rays, and if a particular M1 saw more time in the sun than another that was garaged it could be that the colors would vary significantly over what has now become decades.

So I would say either color is probably correct.

And if you are lucky enough to have a Mach 1, or any Ducati single, who cares what hue of what color it is? There are about 7 billion other people give or take that aren't lucky enough to have a Ducati single of any color.

I am not sure that my photo came out.I will try and post another one but if you look at photo gallery under
topic Ice Cold in Garage there is a glimpse of the Mach 1 . It is the same colour all over even the hidden bits.
