I managed to wedge a large dia tube up into the bottom of my SSI and the odd drip does not matter,in the end though i found that raising the level to just below the flood point got me to a good starting position.

Thanks Bevel Bob. That is along the lines of what I was thinking since I cannot recreate the threads with a fitting.

I think that float bowls that are direct acting, that is they don't have a lever to increase pressure on the needle, are inherently prone to leaking.
The leaks tend to stop due to engine vibration. With engine off is when leaks happen.
Just a thought - could fuel level be lowered a little by fitting a thicker gasket between the float bowl banjo and the carb body?

Level is now set to just below the weep hole. It appears that my problem all along was getting the float valve to shut off. Jim F is right, when you have a positive shut off there is sufficient level adjustment without having to add grooves to the needle or adding a thicker gasket as Jordon suggests (both good ideas) Float level is forward to lower, and back to raise. Pretty simple. I am waiting on new petcocks to test run but I went back to a 112 main and the needle in the middle to start. I think tuning will be a different situation now that I have established a good level . Thanks again to all. I have learned much from this thread. This restoration has taken over 2 years and I (actually this is for my wife) am ready to get it on the road :)

That looks cute and comfy, you might need to go even smaller on the main with the air filter fitted.

I have a 108 main in hand. I will try that.
