out of all the original tanks the Scrambler one has the most room for a larger carb and manifold combo
the trottle cable will go into the tunnel for the main frame tube

i just made up a manifold for a 38 mm Dell Orto carb to clear the scrambler tank

____ Mike, you don't have your stock/scrambler-tank sitting lower-down nearer to your 450-frame's back-bone, do you ?
Cuz if the tank is properly held-up off/away from that frame-tube, the throttle-cable coming-out from the top of an old direct-mount type Amal-carb, really shouldn't require the cable to be too sharply bent to clear the bottom of the tank. _ As there's supposed to be a pad (about 20mm thick) placed between the rear of the tank & the frame-tube which that part of the tank rests on.
__ I feel the need to mention this, only because I've seen so very many DUKEs that have had the stock spacer-pad lost & missing from that location, and replaced with something else, (such as just a piece of inner-tube rubber), if substituted with anything at all. _ And with nothing placed in that space, I know it doesn't take too many thousands of miles for a tank on a 350 or 450, to develop a fuel leak in that area of the tank.

No, I have a piece of 1 inch dense closed cell foam wraped around the backbone and taped in place. Don't know if you recall that I have a home brew manifold mounting my Amal 932. The angle is not extreme, but I wouldn't want it to be too much more. thought with Carl's big DellOrto on there that the top looked to be right up there snug. When I first got the bike, it did not have anything on the back bone, and you wouldn't believe the racket that tank made against the frame. took about 2 minutes before I started working on solutions.

____ Right Mike, I now recall seeing a picture of that before,, just wasn't thinking of your particular Amal & (unneeded) manifold set-up, when I was writing my post.

____ The angle which your cable must bend, could be much relieved if you were to eliminate your added manifold.
Have you ever tried that out yet ?

____ Oh yes I would believe it Mike, as back in the day when most DUKEs were owned by common motorcyclists / 'bikers' (rather than Dukers), it seemed that for some reason they most always lost the original spacer-pad, and many would then let the tank just set directly on there, rattling-away & thinking little of it. _ I gather that whoever you got your Duke from, must've been just a mere biker !?

well, I have the carb about perfectly sorted so I've not been inclined to change it. I know that the Spanish brothers all seem to mount them direct with no ill effects. I like the carb sitting level. A few resons: It works well the way it is, I think it was designed to work that way, failing fuel valve or forgetting to turn it off will reuslt in a wet air cleaner instead of a full cylinder with gas getting into the crank case, and I hope the previous owner's efforts to contour the inside of the manifold have some benefit.

Mike, yeah the cable is tight... First off I raised the back of the tank about half an inch with a rubber spacer then I heated and bent the cable end as tight as possible. Everything clears and works well and even looks right to boot.

Mike, just posted the response to your question then I saw I was way down the cue and saw more questions. The akronts came from ebay years ago. The parts are out there they just keep getting more expensive and harder to locate.

thanks for the come back. I will probably keep on with the 932 Amal. would like to come across some correct or near correct aluminium rims, but not really pressing. So long as I can give it a kick or two and go for a ride, I'll be happy.
