Front exhaust pipe length

Postby kaysystems » Thu Jul 16, 2026 9:42 pm

Hi

I never had a stock muffler or front pipe since I bought my '66 Mk 3 in 1974. Now that I have one and a new front pipe, how long is the front pipe supposed to be? Mine goes almost to the rear of the shifter box, meaning it needs to go 3 1/2 inches into the muffler. Seems like a lot.
Is this correct.

Thanks

Thank you

Do you know what the original finish on the front pipe retaining nut was? Paint would surely burn off.

I was looking at the one for sale from Mdina - https://www.bevelsingleparts.com/340 - says it is plated. Mine has had the brass showing through since I bought the bike in '74.

Folding footrest clocking.

Best way to make sure th left footrest folds up, not down (like mine right now).

I'm thinking metal, or fiber washer. There's no room for a nut on the back. I think I have a reproduction footrest :-(

Thanks

Flicking through the Mick Walker book, the factory finish is clearly plated. Could have been chrome I suppose, but more likely Cadmium.
