DVLA and NOVA bother...

Postby Chewythekneeslider » Fri Jun 19, 2026 4:15 pm

Hi all,

I'm in a bit of a bind with getting my 1961 TS175 registered.

I have all the correct documents, photographs etc. and sent away my completed V55/5 to the DVLA here in the UK, as I have several times before with cars and bikes I have successfully obtained age related registration numbers for.

This time however, I have encountered a problem. My NOVA declaration which was done by the chap who brought the bike into the UK in October last year, entered the VIN number as 07XXX, so this is how it appears on the NOVA declaration document.

My dating certificate, which I obtained from the Ducati Owner's Club GB has DM175*07XXX*.

The frame number as it appears on the bike (and has not been tampered with) shows DM175*07XXX*

The V5C application has bounced back because of the difference between the frame number on the NOVA and the rest of the paperwork.

It is simply not a case for me, as a private individual to be able to contact HMRC and to get them to rectify the problem, as a couple of emails and phone calls have just lead to a 'Computer says no' outcome. The DVLA say that I need to contact HMRC... I also tried emailing the DOC GB contact who provided my dating certificate, but no reply there...

HMRC suggest that he person who I bought the bike off, and completed the NOVA paperwork needs to modify it, but he isn't answering emails... I bought the bike as a project for a very reasonable sum, so I kind of understand why he wants done with it, and when he did reply, he said that he always registers bikes with the XXXXX five digit frame number, and never has a problem...

Well, that is where I am now, and I seem to be stuck, with no way forwards! Oficialdom is doing what it does and putting stumbling blocks in my way, even though It's obvious I'm not trying to do anything fraudulent or dodgy. Does anyone out there have and suggestions for getting this moved on, as I'm out of ideas!

Thanks

Jon

I have had dealings with Nova before and found tham very helpful. Phone call perhaps better than email.
