Air Filter Mounting
I am the recent purchaser of a 1969 250 Scrambler and just joined the forum because there is a huge amount of useful information. My intention is to restore the bike to something close to original. Unfortunately the three lugs on the frame are missing so I can’t mount the air box. What I don’t know is whether any frames came without them or whether somebody has removed them. The frame has been powder coated in red so it is possible they were removed when this was done. As part of the restoration it will go back to black but can does anybody know if any 250s were made without lugs? Many thanks.

Re: Air Filter Mounting
Hi Pauelana,
I can't directly answer your question about frames being manufactured without lugs. However I'm quite sure that it should be easy to find brackets that will allow mounting of the air box without welding.
My scrambler still has the air box fitted, but it is no longer connected to the carburettor. I was advised by a mechanic who prepared and raced Ducati singles for decades, and had been trained in the Mototrans factory in Barcelona, to use a cone filter directly onto the carburettor to get better airflow than the original air filter. It seems to work for me. So I reckon you could do without the airbox. However you would need to do something about the crankcase breather which also connects to the airbox (that's why my airbox remains in place).
Hope that helps,
Al
