One other thing. Do you use a velocity stack or hose connected to a side cover? i had an issue where my bike would bog at higher RPMs. My carb hose had a slight restriction in it before it opened up. Once I cut the restricting piece out of the hose the bike ran fine.

Roland, I'll get a photo today.
The only thing I have replaces is the three wires from the stator.

Roland, here's a photo of my stator. You can't tell which connection is for which circuit, but I'll also attach the wiring diagram that shows the order.

Also - anyone know where the cylindrical piece belongs in the other photo? I found it on my table under the disassembled primary but don't see any place it might fit. Maybe from a previous job?

One more question for the collective intelligence: the AC coil's terminals are marked 1 and 15. Wiring diagram does not specify which side is to be grounded. Should I assume that since it's an AC system it does not matter which?

The cylindrical piece looks like a piece from the clutch push rod assembly

That would make sense. Looks like a small ball in that channel, which is what I saw when I pulled the clutch down. But perhaps it dropped out while I was looking the other way!

Stator and wiring looking good.

Comments on schematic:
There may be induced a lot of trouble by this "safety setup" combined ignition/brake wiring.
Never seen before...
Check this again, and in doubt replace by interim wiring for testing.

For the HV-coil:
Left is 1, right is 15.
You see it by understanding this common point for both windings.

Roland, yes - wiring the bike so that the ignition quits if/when the brake light filament fails is...uniquely Italian, I suppose. From what I've read, many or most of the bikes wired this way have a toggle switch wired in near the taillight (typically on the housing itself) that will bypass the filament.
Mine doesn't have such a switch but it seems to me that in the case of brake light failure I could just cross the two wires at the brake switch and achieve the same thing. (Or carry extra bulbs).

As I recall, my BMW R100 had a similar wiring anomaly, not involving the brake light but one of the lights up front. I think I dealt with that by wiring in a resister or small bulb in parallel. Long time ago, and my memory fades.

Thanks for the tip on the coil wiring. I had not noticed the primary/secondary connection you pointed out.
