Silver Shotgun help

Postby Dave354 » Sun Jul 13, 2025 7:14 pm

Hello everyone,
A good friend of mine has bought what appears to be an original 250 Desmo Silver Shotgun from Italy. It’s shown as first registered in Italy by the first owner who was believed to be a dealer and had it in his office for most of its life so wasn’t registered on the road till 1973.
In order for the tax man an DVLA to be happy he needs some evidence of age based on the chassis and engine numbers. I’ve looked on the Bevel heaven list and although not there it gives a date based on the engine and frame of 1972?
Can anyone help with who to contact as an authority to endorse its age based on the engine and chassis numbers?
He has every bit of paperwork the bike has ever had and it shows it as a DM250GT manufactured in 1971, but not registered till 1973.
Many thanks
Dave

I got my Italian-import 175 dated by Ducati UK. I spoke to my nearest dealer who put me in touch with a helpful guy there.

Otherwise - try Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, or Ducati Owners Club. I think both are accredited by DVLA.
Or VMCC if he is a member. I think they can date any brand of motorcycle.

You could try the Ducati Owners Club Great Britain aka DOCGB. I seen to recall the club has a machine dating service accepted by the authorities.
What part of Cornwall are you in? I live in Callington and own a '74 250 Desmo based race spec bike along with a '79 900SS and a Corsarised 955cc '92 851.

Thank you all, I knew there was an answer!
I’m in Probus near Truro, so not too far away. I’m hoping to finally get the rest of the lighting loom finished before the Jennings run in September!
