Hi Bill and the other George, excuse my senior moment, sometimes you see what you expect to see and not what is written.

G'day Graeme,

Storm Bert has arrived in Perthshire this morning and we have steady snow, but at present it is not that deep, 2" and is starting to turn back to rain as the temperature rises.

"Reek" is Scots colloquial for smoke.

"Keepers" are the people employed by hill estates and land owners, to care for and promote game birds and animals for sport shooting, by their guests (paying or gratis) and themselves, during date specific seasons.

"Muirburn" is the burning of heather/vegetation during the late autumn, winter and early spring, before ground nesting birds arrive on the hill, so as to provide a patch work of vegetation/heather shoots for grazing by grouse, sheep, deer and mountain hare, on the open hill/moor. The edge effect of taller heather shelter alongside fresh heather shoots, close to the ground is important for the Red grouse and the Black grouse (Black Cock), when rearing their chicks. If heather is allowed to become rank, over 18"/ 45cm tall, whilst giving shelter, when burnt the heat of the muirburn can kill the heather plant entirely and that is not desirable.

Needless to say, we have the wood stove lit and some good motorcycling reading on the table, rather than standing out in the workshop, trying to shim the 350 MKIII bottom end! Saftie that I am! ;)

Morning George, no problem. ;)

Slainte, Bill

As a Scot originally from Elgin and now in Cornwall, it so good to read such a great description! I can almost hear the accent.

Cheers

Aye Dave and Graeme,

Thank you for your compliment Dave. I'm t'other way round, having come from Norfolk/Hertfordshire to Scotland 51 years ago and now biding in Perthshire. My problem is that colloquial Scots is what I can use, but with an East Anglian/Sarf East accent!

My pleasure Graeme.

Good health, Bill

As another week has passed, since the last post on the Forum, I have a general question. A few days ago I received the new V5c with age related number for my Mondial, well done HMRC and DVLA excellent service. The motorcycle now has one years road tax. It will quite likely not be going on the highway, for all of that period. Does it need to be Insured or a SORN ?

I am surprised you got a road tax without having insurance , but i think there was some recent changes. To be safe i would apply for SORN

If not taxed you must sorn it or you will be fined to add to the government Christmas fund.
