Hi Bill,

The Moray coast! - a fine place to spend some time - I hope you enjoyed yourself and had the opportunity to visit the dolphins.

George has been a star, and posted it on Monday. With any luck it’ll be here by the weekend (George reminded me that it’s uphill all the way to Scotland, and so might take a day or two )

Thanks
Mike

Aye Mike,

Bet its easier pushing the cam locking tool up to Scotland than a 450 up the Cairnie Braes. ;)

As for the dolphins, not a show, went to Fort George for a scan across to Chanory Point, but nothing doing and for most of the week with a steady Force 7 northerly blowing the seas were rough, so very difficult to spot them offshore.

Best to George as well.

Good health, Bill

Feel a bit guilty for taking the food from Nigel Lacey's mouth after all the help he gives us.

Aye George,

Nigel's off on his holibobs from closing time today, 17th Nov. '24, until 11th, Nov. '24 and I'm sure he understands these loans make the world go round. After all he used to race and that's what happens in paddocks. Maybe Mike will order one whilst he is away and Nigel will give him a 10% discount on it! ;)

Happy holibobs to him and good health to you, Bill

No issues from me George, all part of the community. It doesn't make sense to buy tools you're not going to get much use out of. We loan out flywheel pullers ourselves.

Regards Nigel

Progress update - I've been distracted by a couple of things along the way, so took longer than expected, but the engine is pretty much assembled. I picked up some engineers blue, finished the shimming, and it felt and looked pretty good. The cam holding tool from George came in very handy to nip up that retaining nut.

I lined all the timing marks up, then temporarily assembled everything in order to check piston/valve and piston/plug clearance, and after a few turns of the engine, everything still looks good with no evidence of clearance problems, cleaned everything down and reassembled.

Really the only thing left is to reset the ignition timing, and connect the coil and fuel - one for Saturday perhaps.

George, thank you again, once I've had a good startup, I'll pop your tool back in the post.

That's looking very good Mike, I hope the Saturday final assembly and test-run all prove successful.

Bit driech here and bathroom ceiling taking priority today!

Good health, Bill

Hi Mike, Realy the only thing left to do is ride the bike and wear it out

That first few kicks of the starter always seem to give me a touch of nerves after some serious work on an engine. Fortunately, it all went to plan, and a little fiddle with the throttle stop screw, and it's idling nicely.

A wee vid of it here -

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement along the way. If the dry weather holds, then I may even try taking it out on a road test soon.

Mike
