Electrical Help Needed

I run coil/points ignition but I do have an Electrex reg-rec.
The first one just stopped working after a very short time and they were a bit stroppy about not wanting to replace it, and insisted I do all the wiring checks etc. Once I had done that, they agreed that I could send it back for test, but if it was OK I would need to pay for the test and the postage.
A couple of days later a new one arrived with no explanation!
That replacement one is still working in terms of controlling the system voltage and battery charging but the charge warning light is always on now, which it wasn't when I first fitted it. I have a separate red-green voltage monitor so just ignore the lamp.
