Offer to Help-out any Needy / Disadvanged, & DUCATI.MS

Postby DewCatTea-Bob » Sun Jan 16, 2011 7:18 am

____ Is anyone of us here registered at 'DUCATI.MS' ?
If so, do you find them to be of much help? _ And if so, are they also of any help to Duc.Single-owners ?
I ask because I heard tale of some fellow Duke-owner being told to go to THAT site (but not here), to get info concerning an "old 150 Ducati". _ So I also went to that w.site to see if anyone got any answers about any questions concerning anything of the sort, and I could find nothing other than bits & bits and more bits concerning nothing other than the newer multi-valve DUCATIs (of which, are as greak-speak to me as any bike made in the innermost bowls of China), and could not only not find what I had hoped to but also couldn't find a dang-thing about ANY Duc.Single !!
Mind ya I didn't spend too much time there but it was discouraging enough that I found myself wanting to get out of there ASAP.
__ So I'd like to know if anyone here knows how to find their way around in there and may know where they might more likely find any specific section (or obscure corner) for Duc.Singles anywhere within. _ And/or could possibly leave some kind of (handy/helpful) notice somewhere in there (in an appropriate area/spot), to mention our w.site here, so that any needy-disadvantaged sorts with an old-Duke, somewhere in there, might get some real-help (here).

Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob

Bob,

several people registered here are also registered there. You need to go into the Vintage section. It's all twins and singles together - no seperate sections.

http://www.ducati.ms/forums/14-vintage/

I'm sure you'll see some singles topics there, although it contains more twin stuff, I'd say.

Is it helpful? Yes, there are some knowledgeable people on there that have helped me and even a few good singles specialists. If I'm looking for singles info now though, I'll be posting here first. I'm not sure what the rules/ettiquite is on referring people to other sites. (more particularly if it is part of a commercial enterprise as another well known US old Duc site is.)

____ Thanks for the link Kev ! _ It no doubt saved at least myself from having to wade-through that w.site again !
I did indeed note a couple familiar names there ! _ And I did find a few posts concerning some singles-stuff but it's really too bad that they have to still be mixed-up together there with the old L-twin stuff. _ Plus I seen some interesting posts (such as L-twin F/R 'camshaft alignment' -[synchronization]) placed by yourself ! _ (BTW, I also have the timing-specs for the screw-adjuster rocker-arm type GT-cams [which are probably the "barkers" because THOSE GT-models came with very restrictive mufflers!], somewhere-around here and I'll give them to you when those records next turn-up during my next search-effort.)
__ If I still had any of my L-twins, I'd consider registering there but, I really don't have what-it-takes anymore.

Old-DUKE Cheers,
-Bob

I'm also on Ducati.ms, more for the rubberband content though. I lurk on Bevelheads which has a huge knowledge base and is good for singles info but is way more of a twins site, plus I really don't like the email format and the preponderance of non-Ducati subject material.
I used to be very active on Ducati.net (late 90's/early 2000's) when it was in a forum format, got to be a bit of a soap opera at times though, lol. Not sure what's going on there these days but I remember that the proprietor, Vicky Smith, was very into the singles and did the Motogiro d'Italia every year.

I was into some very aggressive street riding at that time and consequently into heavy performance mods (900ss, 996), was compelled to stay informed of all the latest developments. But after witnessing one too many crashes, pursuits and arrests on the superbike group rides, I was starting to feel the odds stacking against my continued survival and it seemed my risk tolerance to enjoyment ratio was shifting,( or maybe I'm just getting old ;)). My 'trusted group' of riders drifted apart and I have since given that stuff a long break and migrated over to non group supermoto type riding.
Just within the last year or so I've been looking at the 996 more and contemplating putting it back on the road but fear the possible consequences, old habits are hard to break. So the 450 R/T project ( as well as some resurrected Brit projects) is partly an attempt to steer myself in a different direction, which is mostly why I'm here on this site.

I think you'll find that many singles owners also own other/newer twins, rubberband and/or bevel) and tend to be on multiple Ducati related forums if any at all. There has to be at least a half dozen active sites, either Ducati specific or with a lot of Ducati content (speedzilla for example) and I see many familiar names (and cross posting) across them all. I would guess that Motoscrubs is likely one of the least known, partly due to it's specificity and also it's newness but for anyone doing an online search for singles info it's easy enough to find. Also I think that people tend to stick with a site that they're already on and comfortable/familiar with even though it may not be the best place available for a particular topic, I see that happen on every forum I've ever been on.

I've been with Ducati MS for some time I only click on the singles vintage section, My son, who used to work in Syd's engine building dept and some others on Ducati ms have some good info, How ever they don't have someone as knowledgeable as our own Dew- Cat-Tee bob. They don't have his knack of the charging system& wiring as our leader!! Capt Paul

I'm not sure what the rules/etiquette is on referring people to other sites.

If someone needs to be directed to another site/forum to get the help/answers they need then I'm all for it.

This forum only began because the Bevelheads discuss mostly twins and their signal-to-noise ratio is a bit low when looking for technical info. They have lots of knowledgeable people, but sometimes I would post a question there, get ten humorous quip responses with no real answers to my problems and my thread would get stale or go completely off topic on a tangent, eventually getting lost behind the constant flurry of fresher emails and their quip responses. Also the ability to go back and search old posts for technical content is non-existent (to the best of my knowledge.)

I appreciate that Bevel Heaven has a forum that includes singles but I disliked having to drill down to find the singles tech stuff. There too I felt a little bit like the singles are the little brother that's somewhat ignored at the dinner table.

I'm all for the success of every forum, but I'm more for the success of every one who is trying to resurrect or restore an old Ducati single, or to keep one running. The nature of the world wide web is to cross link. Every forum is a resource to every one of us. Few of us know enough about every aspect of Ducati singles that we can afford not to look everywhere for good advice/answers.

If you point someone here to help somewhere else, then you have helped them. "Mission accomplished."
