Howdy,
I have a 200GT with the 40 watt battery electrical system. I've been experiencing an electrical issue(s)for a while and getting an accurate reading from my digital multi meter wasn't accurate (jumpy) since I was testing AC voltage and current. I purchased on Amazon two cheap analog gauges (voltmeter and ammeter) and I get 7v and 6a from one wire and nothing from the other wire when the bike is run at 3K rpm. I think this is telling me that one of the AC wires is either broken, disconnected or shorting to ground. Does this sound correct to you?
Thanks, Mark

Sounds like it.
A resistance check between the suspected faulty wire and ground could be revealing.
Do it with engine stopped, wires disconnected from anything else.

Re: Only one generator wire producing voltage and current
I've been on quite an adventure with the electrical system of my 200GT. After rewiring and replacing almost everything, I finally removed the flywheel to inspect the stator. It looks like a 40 watt flywheel that came on an Elite as per the Domiracer 200 Elite parts catalog. EG4421.4002
This is what I found. I have supposedly a two wire battery system. It looks like a three wire stator, but only wired with two wires. Does anyone know what stator this is? The Elite had one that looks like that. EG4421.4002S
Both wires were grounded through the stator when tested. Both wires only go to one coil. The other end of the coils are soldered together with two wires. Does anyone have a clue what the previous owner was trying to do? Feel free to guess
Thanks, Mark

It looks like the stator wiring is factory-standard.

Re: Only one generator wire producing voltage and current
It looks standard as fitted to the 250 monza and gt. I have a part number of 0400.33 6v 40 watt. It also shows as have only a 2 wire cable output.
Not sure if that helps? I think (dangerous I know) that it can be upgraded to any of the later 60w narrowcase stators. I opted for the electrex world 12 v system for my own sanity!
Regards
Dave

Re: Only one generator wire producing voltage and current
Thanks Dave. Do you have a parts book that shows the 40watt alternator (0400.33.xxx) fitted to a 250 Monza or GT?
With more research I think that I have an 200 Elite or 200GT stator that is missing a wire. I've never seen the coils wired together that way. You can see where the wire to the top coil was soldered. I would like to see an original one to see that wiring.
I assume the way the Elite's stator was wired produced 7V so there was only a need for a rectifier (Westinghouse 20V7A 175.IE 69) and not regulator. When I tested the alternator I got 7V6A out of one wire and nothing out of the other. There is no regulator in the 200 Elite part's book.
As per the 200GT supplement parts book that seemed to have changed. The flywheel and the stator seems to be the same but maybe wired differently.
The 200GT has a 6V7A four wire reg/rec (0400.46.750)(31.21.93) that looks similar to the common 6V10A six wire reg/rec (0600.33.403)(31.40.91) used on Monzas, Mach 1s, Sebrings, and 250GTs. I've never seen that 4 wire reg/rec before. Has anyone?
I've never seen a wiring diagram for the 200GT, just the 250GT and that was is just like the other models that shared the 60 watt alternator.

Photos of stator on my 1965 Elite. Two wires only. don't know if this helps.
As this is my favorite bike that is used all year round I fitted a Lacey Electrix 12 volt alternator and electronic ignition. Sod originality I want a bike that starts every time and I want to be able to see where I am going in the dark

Mark,
Just to check basics:
If the output is jumpy, have you selected the AC position on your digital multimeter?
Has a resistance check been done yet, as advised?
Let's know the circuit being tested, not just "output from one wire". Better to say where the test leads were connected, for example between wire X and ground.

Re: Only one generator wire producing voltage and current
Jordan, It does look like factory wiring. Thats whats so interesting. I've never seen a stator wired like that. It clearly had a third wire at one time. I'm told that if I leave it like that I can use a simple bridge rectifier. Luckily I have spare 60 watt stator and flywheel so I'm going to try that. Thanks for your input.

Re: Only one generator wire producing voltage and current
I thought the 60 watt alternator had different mounting holes to the earlier 40 watt
