Cylinder install: hollow oil lubricating stud?

Postby neal69duc350d » Fri Jan 27, 2023 8:06 pm

Hi all,

Following the Clymer procedure for installing the cylinder and head in ch4 (pg60) on a 69 desmo 350. Step #5 says to "Make sure the small o-ring is fitted in place over the hollow oil lubricating stud". I do not see what they are referring to on the cylinder or crankcase, nor do I see this o-ring listed in the parts catalog. Can someone kindly point me towards the part they are describing? There's a small hole on the crankcase that I think is an oil passage and the base gasket has a hole for this -- is that what they are referring to?

Thanks,
Neal.

It’s the o-ring shown below which fits over the protruding piece (assuming you are not missing that part (also illustrated)

The O-ring should be made of heat resistant material.
These days you can buy Viton or silicone O-rings.
Standard type is likely to go hard and leak as it loses its "springiness".
This size works:
Designation = BS 011
Inside diameter = 5/16"
Outside diameter = 7/16"

Ohhhh. This is on the top of the cylinder. From the steps in Clymer, it made it sound like it was on the bottom, where it fits to the crankcase. I got it now. Thanks all.

Neal.
