Aye Alex,

Just for information.

The original sidestand on my '74 450 MKIII has a length from the centre of the sidestand pin to the base of the foot of 280mm (11"). On soft ground, or gravel, I put a thin (3mm) plastic puck beneath to prevent it sinking.

In the workshop I sometimes level the bike up a bit by putting a piece of 95mm x 45mm (4" x 2") under the stand and this gives a length from the pin centre line to the ground of 325mm (12¾") that appears to be similar to the measurement that you give for your stand. This does make the bike more prone to be toppled, even with the front wheel turned to the nearside.

Maybe removal of 45mm from the arm and then pin and reweld the standard foot back would solve the problem, if you cannot find a replacement MKIII sidestand. Adding length/distance between the side stand arm centreline pivot and the ground surface,
"Is there a solution, other than carrying a hockey puck around with me?"
will just exacerbate your problem.

I can measure the side stand pin OD if you wish, or post images to show the angle of dangle from the front and rear, if necessary.

Good health, Bill

if you have a 1974 scrambler that would be a type2 . has a double sided 180 mm grimeca and fork stancions that are 2,5 cm longer then a type 1
scrambler . 60cm and 57.5 cm . dont know if Ducati made the sidestand longer

A bit more investigation reveals that the side stands for the 450 Mark 3 and the 450 SCR have different part numbers (after posting my earlier message, I managed to find a part number for the 450 SCR):
0688.12.500 for the Mark 3
0690.12.500 for the SCR.

Which may explain the different lengths that Bill reports. But it doesn't explain why, with the same length stand, Alex's bike leans over more than my bike. However my bike is 1972, so 1st Series.

I suspect Eldert may be on to something ...

(And btw, the 450 SCR number is, indeed, different from the 250/350 SCR part numbers of 0689.12.500/503).

It's looking like that Ducati parts bin thing! What comes to hand at the side of the assembly line, gets assembled! ;)

Thanks everyone for the assistance! OK some more investigation (and questions):
Eldert, when you list stanchion length, how is that measured? Mine's a Mk II Scr with the Grimeca, and the length from the bottom of the triple to the axle center line is 55.3cm and to the bottom of the fork 57.2cm. Neither is the 60cm you mention. (Of course, anything longer than mine would make my lean worse.)
Ventodue, so it seems I have the correct stand, but my bike leans over more than seen in your photos.
Bill, I believe you have my situation reversed. Mine leans over too much making it tippy... it's not upright too much. So this implies I'd need a longer side stand.
George, you might be onto something. The mounting is all solid, unbent. unworn, rotates smoothly, and the forward "stop" seems correct. But using a straightedge I've noticed a slight "splay" or bow outward. If these are easy to bend as you described, this could be my issue. If I recall my high school geometry, bending the stand inward a modest amount would have a meaningful effect on straightening up the bike. I'll do some math, then take the stand off and try simply bending it.
Still would like to confirm stanchion length with Eldert though!

Hi, on mine the pin was bent where it joins the leg causing it to splay out. When in the folded position leg should tuck in close to sump, if it is sticking out away from the sump this may indicate angle between pin and leg has been bent. Good luck sure you will sort it out.

Fixed! After concluding my stand is correct, I went about adjusting it. I straightened it (not "concave shaped" anymore), heated and adjusted the pin slightly (not easy), but the biggest improvement was adding weld to the forward "stop" so that the stand no longer angles so far forward when put down (Ventodue you called it). I'm not sure if the stop was ground back for some reason or just worn, but this helped a lot. Thanks all.
