Cure for Tippy Scrambler Side Stand

Postby Alex450Jupiter » Mon Nov 21, 2022 4:44 pm

My '74 450 Scrambler side stand is virtually useless in most real world settings... very easy to tip the bike over. It seems original and undamaged. Length from pivot to shoe is 12-3/4". Is there a solution, other than carrying a hockey puck around with me?

I had a 450 mk111 and the side stand worked OK, so I wonder what is different on the Jupiter? I am assuming that the bike leans over too far?

Cheers,

Colin

Yes, leans too much. Not much of a force would topple it over onto the side-stand side.

Hmmmm, so maybe the forks are longer on the Jupiter? I believe that the rear shocks are longer? Would it be possible to weld a section into the stand to make it longer?

Sounds like you've got the wrong stand ;) . Here's mine ...

I don't see a listing in the parts book for a 450 SCR side stand, so have to assume it was the same as for the 250/350 SCRs. For which there are two models listed, differentiated only by the diameter of the mounting pin (14 or 16mm).

However ... Ducati Vintage Store sell the same stand for all 3 models of SCR. So I rest a tad confused ...

Could you kindly measure the length of your stand, from centerline of the pivot axis to the end of the shoe? Thank you. Mine is 12-3/4 inches.

Not rotating too far forward, is it?

Reference photos of 3 other bikes for you. So you shouldn't be leaning more than this ..

Have you checked that pin on stand has not been bent.
A common problem as stand is not made to take weight of rider sitting on bike or kickstarting. I had to alter mine.
