A 250 mark3 Diana

Postby MotoMike » Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:23 pm

this one is currently on Ebay. Is it the bike described?

How well do those curved kick starters they use to get around the rear sets work. looks like they would be a pain.

The curved kick starter is a bit of a joke, except it is no joke of course because it is either that lever or bump starting.

You get what feels like somewhat noticably less than 90 degrees of rotation from your foot pushing through the kick start pedal plus whatever little extra rotation that momentum provides until compression or other resistance brings the engine internals back to a stop.

For this reason the bike has to be well tuned and the engine needs to be brought around to the compression stroke so you can squeeze some fuel/air and get a spark and light the engine up in that very short throw.

Jim

" Is it the bike described? "

____ I wouldn't say that it's the "bike" described but, the provided description is indeed consistent with the DUKE-model that's pictured - a 1967 '250 Mark 3' !
However, the listing-title includes the older title-designations "Diana" & "Mark III" within it's given model-name, which I believe both -('Diana' & 'III') were dropped by Ducati itself, (but not general-bikers & many Dukers), from the 'Mark-3' line-name, by 1966.
__ Also, the 10011 serial-number, (although pretty cool), is actually not a "Low" production-number for that 'M3' model-line, (as most earlier 1966-model owners are likely aware of). _ In fact, that DM250-number indicates that the motor was actually produced before late 1966.

PLEASE NOTE... If this-post is not-yet signed-off with '-Bob', then I'm still in the process of completing it,, and if not also included with 'DCT' near bottom as well, then I may edit this post's wording at a later time. - Dct.Bob
