Hi
Another person rebuilding a 350 road. Nearly finished mine with some good hints and help from Jon.
Will be interesting to see it once up and running. I am on the herts/Essex border. Could be a Ducati single fest. :)

It would be interesting to know what carburettor you have on the bike and the year of manufacture of your 350 Road.
I also have a 200cc Elite as does my friend. We live in South Essex. When you have bike running and you have found your soul we could meet up

Just test fitting exhaust, being a pain as it sits really close to the down tube.

Tried a couple of different downpipes. The 250/350 pipe I originally bought does not have enough drop, it does not clear the footpegs so I bought a 350 scrambler one which has the right length, but even without an exhuast gasket it only has about 1 mm clearance from the frame downtube.

Waiting on a couple of part like pertol taps, both mine are leaking and then hopefully I will get to try firing it :)

One question on the Carb. I looks like the choke is closed when the lever is closed and open when the lever is pulled. Seems strange to me.

By the way I am new to this restoration stuff and there is a lot off stuff I would have done differently

I had a Norton Commando with Amals, with the choke lever tensioned, the choke was closed.
Reversed to Dellorto.

Bike looking good. Common mistake with Amal choke. Not all Dellorto chokes reversed. Friend spent a month trying to get Elite running, no power and running rich then realised choke on when lever NOT under tension. Instant cure.

I can add that I recently checked with Burlen about choke operation on my Amal 627, as I was similarly confused.

The advice was: The choke slide is DOWN with a relaxed cable to operate the choke and UP under tension when it is off.

My recollection of operating the bike (admittedly 40+ years ago) was the opposite, but I'm clearly having memory trouble! However it does seem counter-intuitive engineering to have to tension the choke cable for normal operation, rather than for the temporary operation of the choke.

Cheers,
Al

All Amal airflow obstruction chokes have been operated as.... lever closed choke on/lever open (under tension) choke off.

As George says, applies to AMAL MKII type.

MKII carb mounted choke lever raised to apply choke, depressed to remove choke effect, by raising choke plunger from obstructing the drilling.

Good health, Bill
