It’s not the tap leaking is it ?
Old fuel taps tend to leak and can look like the hose connection is leaking.
Which fuel hose and clamps?

Re: Which fuel hose and clamps?
The trusty local plastic supply place came up with some pink 6mm "PR" (petrol resistant) tubing. With a little heat it pushed onto the fuel taps nicely. So no longer any leaking there. But now fuel pours out of the carby. I set the float level correctly, and if I blow into the needle and seat it seems to seal fine, but it doesn't seal petrol!
If anyone knows anything about the needle and seat on a Vento, please advise.
Thanks

Re: Which fuel hose and clamps?
My last post is probably nonsense, because I set the float height as recommended for PHFs on another Duke. What is the correct float height on a Vento?
I set it at 18mm with the carb held upside-down.
It's a new needle and seat.
thanks

Hi,
Your Vento has an Amal carb? Have a look at the Amal Carburettor web site, it has instructions on how to set the float height.

Graeme, you're a genius. Yes, one of the taps is leaking.
next Q: can they be repaired?
Thanks.

Re: Which fuel hose and clamps?
The fuel tap has a 10mm thread, v coarse, maybe 1.5mm. I can't find any replacement taps with this thread. The viton seal is 20mm in diameter. I can find 13, 15, 17 and 21mm. So no joy as yet. Advice on rebuilding/replacing the Vento fuel taps would make my day.

Re: Which fuel hose and clamps?
On Ebay there's 2mm thick fluororubber sheet, so my plan is to make a new fuel tap seal out of this. If anyone has an idea that will save me some hassle, I'd love to hear it.

I don’t know what taps are on mototrans, Italian bikes use Oldani which I have rebuilt in the past.
What taps do you have ?

I rechecked the taps and I think the thread is 12x1.5. They are marked "IDEAL".

Re: Which fuel hose and clamps?
Hi Peter,
Ideal made a number of components for Mototrans machines, including handlebar grips and fuel taps.
The main body of the Ideal fuel taps have a M16x1 thread that screws into an adaptor with the M12x1.5 thread, which in turn screws into the tank.
They easily come apart but you will probably need a sheet of Viton 3mm thick (rather than 2mm ) to replace the seal, together with a hole punch.
Note that there are two small locating lugs cast into the main body of the tap to orient the seal in the correct position and prevent it turning when the lever is operated.
It's also worth checking that both the main and reserve passageways are clear whilst the taps are apart.
All the Ideal taps I've dismantled have had at least the reserve passageway blocked with crud.
