Gasket sealant - novice question
Getting close to putting my 239 Mk3 back together. Sealant products have changed a lot since I last worked on bikes. What product do you experts out there use on the crankcase and rocker covers?

You do not need anything on the rocker covers, and just a tiny smear of silicone on the crankcase centre. Generally no sealant is needed unless the surface is damaged.

Re: Gasket sealant - novice question
I only use a smear of multipurpose grease on all the gaskets unless as already mentioned there is damage to the mating surfaces, then I use blue hylomar.

As said , very little is needed. Areas that may leak are, drive sprocket, top of cam drive tower. Rev counter drive box.

Re: Gasket sealant - novice question
I use Elring's Curil K2 https://www.granit-parts.co.uk/e/product/500532215?q=curil%20k2&id=34212603. It is non-hardening, and gaskets don't stick to the surfaces, so it's i. e. possible to reuse those on the rocker covers if new ones aren't available. Just clean with acetone and apply fresh K2 again.
When no paper gasket is applicable or needed I use Elring's Dirko silicone compound.
cheers Hans
