I am trying to return an ex-race bike to usable road trim I have established that the frame is circa '62 Daytona but I have no registration documents for the bike and the engine is not the one that it would have left the factory with. I would like to avoid a "Q" plate registration, has anyone managed to get an age related registration with a bike like this and if so what did you have to do/provide or is a secondhand log book the answer ?
Thanks

If you have a frame number you can get dating letter from Ducati UK members club. If you join dating is free. Engine number helps.

Hi, yes I have the frame number but I was given to understand that the records were so sketchy any reliable dating was not possible but I will give them a try. Thanks

I've used this site for dating certs on four bikes with no issues. https://www.docgb.org/machine-dating-ag ... or-ducatis
You will also need a NOVA certificate from HMRC, which is quite painless, or it was for me.
All the best

Re: Ex 250 race bike rescue
I have just got a registration number for a 1971 450RT that was imported from the States.
NOVA - required, but no problem from HMRC, only took a few days.
I sourced a dating certificate from the Aircooled RD club (!) that was accepted by DVLA (not for the first time).
I also enclosed a V112 with my application (exemption from MOT).
Apply for Historic vehicle status.
The Registration application took about 4 weeks from sending the forms to receiving the age related registration.
