Well, I bought a piston from JG that was posted on 11th Jan. It is not here yet.
I bought it through his Ebay site, there was no reduction in price. I'm expecting to have to pay VAT.
Unfortunately the piston cost just over the threshold for having to pay tax, which I have read is £135, so I could potentially pay another £35-£40 as I see things, as there will be an 'admistration' cost as well form the carrier.
Looks like the cost of decent second hand spares will be rising pretty soon...
BREXIT potential UK VAT implications.

Re: BREXIT potential UK VAT implications.
This is what is troubling me; if I buy a piston from an Australian shop, they do not charge me the General Sales Tax, as they would for an Australian buyer, but if a shop abroad charges you VAT, then you pay it again in the UK, you are being taxed twice.

Re: BREXIT potential UK VAT implications.
OK, I received my piston today (25th), delivered by the Post Office.
JG had posted it economy delivery, with a Customs Declaration CN 23.
I am happy to report that there was no VAT, duty, or admin charges to pay
.
Credit due to JG for supplying the correct paperwork. Considering the problems that the Post Office are reporting, two weeks is OK, although a little nail biting. I usually received goods from the EU within a week.

Re: BREXIT potential UK VAT implications.
Hi Max,
Can you clarify something for me please? Was the price that JG wrote on the CN23 the same price as that on the eBay ad? As it was over the £135 threshold I thought that he would have deducted the VAT and then you would have been charged it this end.
My understanding is that EU sellers charge VAT on orders under £135, and send it to the UK, but orders over £135 the seller depicts the VAT and the UK charges it. Who knows? Probably not EU retailers! I suppose that we will get used to it.

Re: BREXIT potential UK VAT implications.
The CN 23 cited a price of 140 Euro with a postal charge of 11.10 Euro.
Not sure how that works out in £ at the moment the shipment was assessed.
Must have been close, though.
Just noticed that the 'category of item' was marked as 'gift', so maybe that influenced things?
Just checked on a currency converter and 140 Euro is £125, all ok

Thanks Max, I guess we will have to 'suck it and see' for a while, until things become clearer.
