Roll pin in camshaft

Postby veloduke » Tue Dec 10, 2019 9:32 am

Looking at the camshaft in my 250 - I can see that it is hollow, and there is a roll pin (pasador elastico) pushed in to the end at the bevel drive side.
Doesn't seem to do anything apart from act as a restrictor of some kind.
Does anyone know what it is for?
Cheers

Hi, My 350 cam is the same. The Vento has an oil pressure light on the dash, and a pressure switch through the cam carrier. I am uncertain, but I believe it`s purpose is to create enough back-pressure to activate the pressure switch. Probably has the secondary benefit of forcing oil onto the rockers.

Cheers!

Its a fairly common fitment to force a bit more oil to the cam lobes. The bevel gears get a fair amount of oil from splash and through the bearing and are so long lived that they don't need the open oilway. I did mine many years ago and it works well.

I assume the hole is 5mm--do people use a 3/16 roll pin (which is MUCH easiser to find), or ??

You could press or Loctite in a short piece of 5mm rod with a hole in it, or a flat filed onto its side?
