Building up a 450 race bike for next season. I currently race a 350 widecase in the GP350 class, which uses a 38mm Mikuni. Yes, the Amal is about 6 times the price of a Mikuni so I'm interested to hear from you all about the suitability of the Amal GP on a 450. Presumably the 1.5" but is the 1.375" the better route?
Any experience, thoughts, jetting and tuning suggestions, etc?
Is an Amal GP carb a possibility?

Re: Is an Amal GP carb a possibility?
Aye HMBAtrail,
May I respectfully suggest that you take the 38mm Mikuni off the 350 and stick it on the 450, should go fine, with a tweek.
Although I don't personally race, don't have the nuts for it
, I have assisted/hindered with 450's being raced with 32mm to 40mm carbs, Amal Concentric MKI and MKII, Gardener, Mikuni and Dellorto.
If you can get the Gardener set up, they appear to go well, but for price, experience of others, and availability, a MKI or MKII Amal Concentric takes a lot of beating. A chromed brass slide in the MKI makes a difference.
Finally, the main things are, when you close the throttle and if you use the brakes!
