350 and 450 head the same?

Postby LexH » Fri Feb 17, 2017 8:01 am

Does anyone know if the 350 and 450 desmo heads are the same (interchangeable)? I would have thought not, given the difference in bore size. And my parts catalogue gives different part numbers for the respective castings. But I've heard some say they're interchangeable.

Doh! Just realised I have both a 350 head and a 450 barrel lying around in my workshop. Nope, a 350 head will certainly will not fit on a 450 barrel. Answered my own question.....

As well as other details, positions for the head/cylinder bolts are different between 450 and 250/350.
The head castings of later model 250/350 singles were shared with 450 though, just machined and drilled to suit either type.
The bosses for the bolts are oval, rather than round as on early models.
