I am trying to remember, but I do recall the internal construction is quite simple.

I placed a thick nylon cable tie around adjacent spring loops and then repeated the cable tie around two more loops but 90 degrees offset over and I've again. I cinched them up sequentially in the same sort of pattern. At some point I think three ball bearings fell out and the sticks came apart easily.

I had my springs re-chromed and just cleaned up the internal shock parts if I recall correctly.

I have a basketcase Mark3 too- I can send you a drawing of the missing frame lugs if you need to get them made.

Dave,
Let me know if you want an actual drawing, but it probably won't be needed, at least for the exhaust/buddypeg lug I noticed. It's 20mm diameter, 25mm long, with a 7/16"x20 tpi thread. I've never heard a good explanation of why Ducati chose this thread pitch, but it's found on the bevel twins also. If you made the lugs from 3/4" shaft I doubt if anyone will notice the lugs are 0.037" undersize.
