Nc monza vs scrambler cases

Postby flanker » Wed Dec 23, 2015 7:48 pm

What are the differences (if any) btw a nc 66 250 scrambler and 65 250 monza engine cases. My monza case is trashed despite trying to repair. There are scrambler engine cases on eBay which looks like the same. My monza has the free needle bearings and dm250 on the clutch side as does the scrambler. Will all the gears crank and cylinder fit from the monza onto the scrambler? Thx rob

No difference in the cases between Monza and Scrambler, same model years. The cases are different from the 4-speed to 5-speed however.

Furthermore, I'm wondering if the case for sale is a monza as there is no screw or hole in the chain intake area for the internal chain guard. Do all scrambles have this? I still need to figure out if it's a 4 or 5 speed... R

Have a look at viewtopic.php?t=1288&start=10 for some good views of 5-speed cases. Note on the left side case the reinforcing rib that extends under the transmission and from the front main bearing to the lower front engine mount hole. Also note that the plane that the transmission bearings are mounted in is offset to the left of the plane of the main bearing.

ebay item 321767355653 are early 4-speed. The plane that the main bearing and transmission bearings are mounted in is flat. The transmission is not offset relative to the crankshaft. Also only the two reinforcing ribs under the main bearing.

Matt, that is an epic rebuild! I wish I had some of those tools. I found a 5 speed scrambler case from a really cool guy in nor cal. Everything fits really well. I shimed the crankshaft to zero end float. Amazingly the bottom bevel on the point side did not require any shimming..... I'm getting ready to drill a hole for the kick starter bridge leaflet. My drill press (Christmas gift) arrives tomorrow. I see the differences now. Rob
