____ Shouldn't the 'sticky-note' / "How to add a photo" thread's instruction be updated, now that the new/'phpBB' software-update has included related-changes so it no-longer works !?
Disappointed (no cheers !),

Re: Idiocentric Software-update Issues
____ I had indicated (no-cheers)- disappointment because the new software instructions - ( If you wish to attach one or more files enter the details below. You may also attach files by dragging and dropping them in the message box. ) don't work (for me at-least) ! _ And of-course I've repeatedly tried both indicated methods in all manors conceivably interpretable from the new-software's presented instruction-wording !
____ I've always hated that most-all new software-updates always seem to take two-steps back along-with their new intended forthward-step !
__ Could it be that my PC's XP-Pro OS is too outdated to work properly with the brand-new software-update (that was implemented this past week) ?
As this pic.uploading-issue isn't the only bug-issue I've come-across since the update took effect !
____ When you can check it out for yourself Jim,, try unloading a picture to see if the new pic.posting process works without any glitches, from your end. _ And also check-out that sketchy new place for entering script to accompany your uploaded pic.
Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob

Re: Idiocentric Software-update Issues
Bob,
I took another look at the new way to add pictures to the forum. the old way is still there and basically the same.
click the attachments tab then the "add files" button then pick the file from the pop up and your picture should be uploaded.
then the new way, which is awesome! and way better!
DO NOT click the attachments tab or add files or anything else at the bottom (this might be where you are going wrong)
open your pictures folder or whatever folder on your computer has the file you want to upload
open the folder like you normally would to just look at the picture
then drag and drop the file into the area where this message is, (the message box)
dragging and dropping the file just as you would do to move something from one folder to another.
when you do this you will see the file immediately show up at the bottom.
you can then add text to the photo and place it in line just as before
the new way to add pictures is way better and so much faster!

____ Thanks for your considerate concern !
" the old way is still there and basically the same. "
____ Right, it's still basically the same.
" click the attachments tab then the "add files" button then pick the file from the pop up and your picture should be uploaded. "
____ Indeed, still pretty-much just as before (to that point),, however the old following step of clicking the button that sends-out & uploads the pic to this w.site no-longer becomes presented and the post continues to remain void of any picture (as left-off just as you've instructed and the software-instructions leave ya left hanging at).
" then the new way,
DO NOT click the attachments tab or add files or anything else at the bottom (this might be where you are going wrong)

dragging and dropping the file just as you would do to move something from one folder to another. "
____ While your thoughtfully stated instruction is much more descriptive than that provided (by the software-program), I of-course had indeed still understood that that's what it probably meant. _ But still that process didn't provide any signs indicating any progress towards the expected results !
" when you do this you will see the file immediately show up at the bottom. "
____ Not only was there no such indication that anything at-all occurred when the dropped pic.file was released (over these post/message-window/boxes [as seen whilst actually typing-in wording]), but even when I rather (less simply) brought-up the provided 'File Upload' pop-up to locate my pic.file,, dragging, (instead of double-clicking) the file from that less-direct PC.folder location, didn't result with any forthward-action either !
However, when I dropped the dragged pic.file (directly from my PC.folder) rather to the "box" which becomes revealed under the 'Add files' button, then I'll next see something actually happen to lead me to think I've finally achieved some further progress,, but while I then will've next been presented with the picture (as if viewed on the post's neighboring side-window only showing just the pic as if it's been displayed in it's half-way expanded-view form), that promising step ends-up proving to also be a failure to place the picture on the desired-target/ post-wording page, as well !
__ As I had meant to indicate in my previous-post, I've already tried every conceivable arrangement of uploading process-steps that could possibly be fruitful, but-yet with no success !
Hopeful-Cheers,
DCT-Bob

Re: Idiocentric Software-update Issues
Bob,
so nothing you do will get the file uploaded to the forum?
I guess there could be an issue with you having XP, I don't know.
I recently had to get a new (used) computer to replace my XP machine because I needed to have Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD at home.
My old computer was basically worthless and so frustrating to use I stopped using it completely and only used my smartphone and tablet.
I got a used Dell running windows 7 Pro, Dual core 3.0 processor, 1 terabyte of storage and 8 Gigs of ram off ebay for about $150
forget about the dragging and dropping for now and just focus on the old way.
click on the attachments tab
click on the add files button (a pop up window should appear)
select the file you want either double click the picture or single click the picture then click open
your file should now be visible at the bottom under the attachments tab
you will not see a picture just the file name "place inline" file comment box...ect
if you hit place inline you will see (((attachment=0] duc58.jpg [/attachment)))
if you just hit submit the picture will show up at the bottom of your post
you will not see a picture at all anywhere until you "submit" the posting
so nothing you do will get the file uploaded to the forum?

" so nothing you do will get the file uploaded to the forum? "
____ No, not since the new software-update was done !
" I guess there could be an issue with you having XP "
____ Hopefully someone-else with XP can confirm whether or not that's the problem.
" just focus on the old way.
click on the attachments tab "
____ Right, done that with the expected success.
" click on the add files button (a pop up window should appear) "
____ Also successfully accomplished with all the expected results !
" select the file you want either double click the picture or single click the picture then click open "
____ Either way, no-problem so far (up-to that point) as well...
" your file should now be visible at the bottom under the attachments tab "
____ Well, the file-selector pop-up automatically vanishes-away as normally expected (after entering the selected pic.file),, and then a long/white box pops-open (appearing just below the 'Add files' button), which displays a blank line (underneath the horizontally-listed wording: "FILENAME" _ "FILE COMMENT" _ "SIZE" _ "STATUS" ), (where I'd expect my chosen pic.file to be listed upon).
This is as far as any further progress options will lead me, (aside from the option of using the 'Submit' button that next presents the post without the selected picture installed) !
" you will not see a picture just the file name "place inline" file comment box...ect "
____ Unfortunately only just the long/blank-line with no included file-name or anything else other than the list of presented overhead-wording (as I've listed above) ! _ So there's no sign of "place in line" , nor a file comment box, only just the extended blank-line (within the revealed box) which won't accept & display any entered lettering or files at-all, either !
" if you hit place inline you will see (((attachment=0] duc58.jpg [/attachment))) "
____ Can't click-on a "place inline" button, as there's no other such options presented ! _ Which seems fairly reasonable since the process doesn't seem to ever recognize any loaded file (attempt) to begin with.
" if you just hit submit the picture will show up at the bottom of your post "
____ If only so, we then wouldn't be involved with this thread ! _ And-so the main-reason (so far) for my 'disappointment' (with the results of the software-update) !
" you will not see a picture at all anywhere until you "submit" the posting "
____ As I had expected,, but no matter the trialed process, the resubmitted posts do-not ever succeed to display any picture !
Hopeful-Cheers,
DCT-Bob

____ Great-deal there (if yours works without any issues) !
__ I also got quite a very-similar deal off eBay as well, (only except without so much internal memory) ! _ But unfortunately,, once I received it's shipment, it fails to completely boot-up into it's Windows-7 !
" do you not get to this point ever? "
____ Almost,, as the 'revealed-box' looks the same except no file-name ever shows-up within it (as like your example displays), and your example's 'Place inline' and 'Delete file' buttons as well as the "FILE COMMENT" 'box' are all left undisplayed (and unseen anywhere on the entire page) in my example's case !
____ Too bad there's no way to opt-out of the new pic.uploading-method !
Regretful-Cheers,
