So I've come across some difficulty finding various replacement parts for my new (to me) 1973 Mototrans 350 road. I've looked at various sites via google and bevelheaven.
Classicducati.com has a lot of parts, especially all of the rubber bits, oil gaskets and engine gaskets. Has anyone had good experiences with their replacement parts? It's a lot cheaper then buying a bunch of italian made bits on ebay.
Parts I cannot locate and could use some assistance:
-AMAL 930/416 carb rebuild kit (spanish made gasket diff. than uk) AND the carb-to-manifold rubber piece (size?)
-"350" decal/sticker...classicducati does not have the correct one, only the staggered version.
-I was told the stripes on the front and rear mudguards are painted on white? Is this true about the stripe around the polished tank sides?
-I've read the muffler on the 350 roads were unique, with this said, will the replacement muffler from classicducati, or any one site, be of the same character? (currently it sounds awesome stock!)
-Last one, a complete haynes shop manual. I have the orignal owners manual and maintenance supplement and tool kit with the bike, which are surprisingly helpful for most things, but still would like a full shop manual.
Thanks,
Justin

Hi Justin,
Even tho' I can't reply to all your questions, I thought I'd post a reply to hopefully clarify a few things:
Quality-wise, you should have no problems with stuff from Barry.
However, I note your comment about "buying a bunch of Italian made bits". Just be aware that your bike is NOT Italian, but Spanish; and while many parts are interchangeable, not all are - as I think you're finding out. This is especially true when it comes to running gear and ancillaries.

So you may have to source stuff from Spain - for example (it would appear), the Amal gasket and the side panel stickers. As a starter, here's the panel sticker on a Spanish site:
http://www.bueni.es/motos/adhesivo-tapa ... f_49159870
Almost definitely, but hopefully Jon Peglar wil be able to confirm/deny.
There was/is no Haynes for the Mototrans bikes, and the one for the Bologna singles is largely based on a Desmo - and comes complete with the usual lapses and errors of pretty much any Haynes
. That said, they come up on ebay fairly frequently, e.g:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-1969-7 ... 1e9d95d414
I'm not aware of Mototrans ever having produced a factory workshop manual, although Bologna did. It too is deficient in many parts, but here it is:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1963-on-Ducat ... 53ef0daddc
What you might find more useful than all the above is the parts book for the 250/350 Road. These do come up occassionally, or you might be able to find a downloadable version on Tinternet - I must admit, I haven't looked. Sorry!
¡Saludos!
Craig

Re: Locating parts for 73 Mototrans 350 road
Hi Justin,
I would agree with Craig regarding parts for Mototrans machines.
Almost everything in the widecase Spanish motor is interchangeable with their Italian counterparts.
Using a Haynes manual will be fine with the Spanish motor, albeit noting Craig's reservations re. Haynes manuals in general.
I don't think anyone has made a copy of the Road models muffler so you will have to use an alternative, possibly one designed for an Italian Ducati single.
Another source for Spanish parts is Recambio Usado.com in Spain.
Jesus Loriente has a large range of parts and transfers for Mototrans machines including the '350' side panel stickers and carb gaskets for Spanish Amals.
Send him an e-mail. His English isn't perfect but understandable, he accepts Paypal, which is useful for international payments, and he send parts out very promptly.

Re: Locating parts for 73 Mototrans 350 road
Hi Justin,
The white stripes on each side of the fenders and around the chrome on the tank are painted on.
I got the carb gasket for mine from a British Only Motorcycles in Michigan. Look for Amal Mk1.5 for the correct gasket. The part number was 10-622295.
The manfold to carb insulator I got from Guzzino.
The header pipe is the same as the Italian bikes, so any muffler will fit. I have never seen a Mototrans one for sale. I think Syd's has Conti replicas.
Steve at Bevel Heaven has the Made in Spain sticker for the rear fender but I haven't seen the 350 stickers.
It's funny that you are missing the stickers off the tool boxes. My bike is missing them too.
Cheers, Pete

Rolling chassis 350 mototrans popped up on eBay today.
Life is what you make of it, and I can make almost anything.
