Has any one changed/serviced the speedo drive gear in the front hub? I just bought a different backing plate and the drive looks in bad rusty shape. I tried to remove it but it will take more force than I think it should. Any help out there.

Heat the side plate that houses the speedo drive in an oven set to 250 degrees. You might be able to get the brass drive housing to contract a bit by spraying with a can of compressed air computer keyboard cleaner turned upside down. Contact cleaner will have the same effect. Use a 6-point deep socket on the nut. They usually come out with little difficulty but you might have some corrosion frustrating your efforts.
