250 Monza: is electronic ignition available?

That's why I post on this forum, to get valuable advice from others, which I much appreciate.

So if we forget the KC5466, and instead focus on the more expensive KC5513 (AU$49.95), the "high energy" kit, is this likely to work on a 250?

I don't know if the high energy kit would work reliably on a Ducati 250.
This kit was designed for 12V cars with big alternators and batteries. Will you have enough current reliably available?

What sort of power production have you needed to run to get this outcome, Jordan? I've found the dyna, even on twins, very demanding on power, and when it runs short, it stops.

It's a single, but not a Ducati.
Charging is from a Lucas permanent magnet alternator, as fitted to '70s Triumphs etc.
Ducati bevel twins have a particularly poor charging system as standard.
I should really have said that they can run well on a single, subject to adequate 12V power, such as is now available for $$$ for Ducati singles.
I was really just confirming that a DynaS system made for a twin can be hacked to work on a single.

in my opinion, the PowerDynamo system is not advisable for Ducati singles, as it hides all it's components under the primary drive's cover. Hence it does not provide easy access to the pick-up. So, subsequent corrections of ignition timing are time and labour consuming, cause you always have to open the left cover, dismount the primary drive and the alternator rotor. In order to achieve a different timing, the rotor has to be re-postioned on it's taper, which is a kind of try-and-error operation ...
Electrex Ltd. (UK?) offers a complete system http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/STK-161.html for a comparable price. Their timing pick-up stays at the pristine location, under the RH side chrome cover.

Electrex is in the UK. The system has been subject to a few issues over the last few years, however they may well have got it sorted now. We have sold a lot of the alternators kits over the years and they fit well, work well and we have never had one back. The Mzb system needs the clutch to be spaced off to fit, which is not wholly satisfactory. Hans is spot on with the need to remove the clutch cover to make adjustments, also far from ideal. Try a crank triggered ignition with a dry clutch, now that's a real pain! I'm still happier with a stand alone ignition.

HI, I have a Pazon unit fitted to my 250. It retains the points as a trigger ,comes in a small box ,if fitted near the headstock it is just visible under the tank so that i can watch the built in timing light and timing disc at the same time. Cheap to buy . Timing can be fine tuned by openning or closing the points gap a thou or so. Capacitor not needed as points current minimal. Has worked well for me . 12v can be bought for pos or neg systems.
