Cheers Graeme, I presumed it would have been a larger dia, I shall keep an eye open for one then.

Crank arived yesterday back from Carlo Leoncini, modified to take the wider con rod lightened and balanced in "jig time" very happy with his workmanship and at a very reasonable price.

Motor finished and in place this morning. Couple of questions does the Amal carbed bike have an alloy inlet manifold or just the rubber spacer? The rubber tube that fits onto the filter housing is short and I was wondering if it has been cut down or I there is a manifold missing.
Can someone please measure the sleve on the exhaust pipe that sits behind the exhaust flange nut that presses against the exhaust gasket, the outside dia and also the width. I intend on making a high level pipe and need to make this first and set off from there.

Sam,
The flange at the top of the exhaust pipe is 44mm diameter x 4.5mm thick, as measured on a new Keihan pipe.
The 4.5mm is not critical as the pipes used to just have a flare on the end years ago.
The RT high level pipe is available from the Ducati Vintage Store for 115 Euros if you're feeling flush with money.
I notice that their pipe has a screw on top flange to allow for the fitting of the exhaust nut, it not being possible to feed it on from the bottom end due to the extra mounting flange half way down the pipe.

I've fitted a number of Mk 1 Concentric Amal carbs to Ducati singles (Standard fitting on some Spanish models) and bolt them direct to the head, using the rubber manifold gasket.
I usually make up a thin walled steel ring however, about 6mm deep so that the rubber manifold gasket is not crushed too much when tightening up.
This has almost the same purpose as was done on the original steel manifolds by Ducati.
I'm not sure you will get the original inlet hose to fit onto the air filter with an Amal carb without a bit of modification.
A Mk 2 Amal carb, mounted on a seperate manifold would get closer to the hose.

Jon

Cheers Jon, I have some 1 1/2 stainless pipe so will make my own as the RT comes through the back frame loop and I shall be using the pancake filter which is in that space.

12V Wiring almost complete along with the electronic ignition and indicators, the tank is also ready for uplift from the painters slowly starting to take shape eventually.

Nice job Sam.
Your tank looks great. Did you re-chrome the tank or did you polish the original chrome?
