after spending ages playing with the points, condensor, ATU etc, it would be great to fit an electronic unit, but my web searching is coming up negative, eg, Lucas Rita are no longer made. Does anyone know of an electronic ignition that will go into a 250 Monza? The previous owner converted it to 12V.
Thanks.

Hi
Sachse make an ignition for Ducati singles.
http://www.elektronik-sachse.de/shopsys ... -450-.html
You can buy Direct from them in Germany or we can supply. When I communicated to Horst last, he was seeking a US stockist, I don't know whether he has appointed one yet. The system is supplied in two different versions and can also be supplied for use with 6 volts, unlike most or all of the others. Pazon in Australia also make a system for the Ducati single as well and there a few lesser known systems out there. Mzb and electrex both make complete generator/ignition packages, but both in some of my customers experiences had proved troublesome in either fitting/function or subsequent manufacturer comunication. Personally I prefer a stand alone ignition.
I have fitted a Sachse ignition to a single myself and it seems to work well with a good spark. The bike started well, ticked over nicely and revved cleanly, I am awaiting feedback from the customer after a bit of use. I have also supplied a few systems but had no feedback as yet, which to be fair is good feedback as usually no news is good news! I would say the set up instructions are slightly flawed, but are good enough to get the bike running. From my experience strobing the bike afterwards is advisable to ascertain where you are before using the various present advance curves. But this is of course the case for most other systems as well.
Hope this helps
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
any thoughts on the difference between the 3.10 and the 3.12? Is it worth the extra cash?
Thanks

The 3.12 has a rev limiter and tacho feed, so is suited to race bikes. The extra curves probably don't add much for a road bike and the 3.10 has suitable curves for a 250/350 standard road bike anyway. I pressume you need the system for a road bike, if so I would go for the 3.10 system. A touch of keep it simple!

Another alternative is The Dyna S unit used for may years for the Ducati 750GT. The price is less than $150. The rotor will fit on the 250 advance cam.
You would need to make your own mounting plate or redrill the stock one. A 12V conversion is also needed. The Dyna has a large dwell and therefore consumes a fair amount of power, so I would advise using the stock coil.

I put a Powerdynamo system on my 250 .Gives me a 12 volt system, one kick starting and instant idle . Very expensive at $500 but lots of problems just go away. TomA

thank you, that sounds very interesting, but will it fit on my 250? The powerdynamo replaces the magneto, acc. to their website, but my 250 Monza has coil & points.

It sounds like the Powerdynamo kit includes everything you need to replace your magneto+points+coil.

Right all that stuff goes away. You don't have to have a battery . You can put all the gear in the tool box. Tom
