Bob, that's what I'm thinking too,,,, I'll remove the head on the weekend and the timing cover and have a better look at everything. :?

It's the exhaust rocker pin slack in the head.
If I lift the rocker with a screw driver (a cordless one) I can easily get a .45mm feeler above the shim.
So the hole in the head is worn, the inlet too, but not as bad.
What's the fix for that?

Seems likely that the rocker and pin bores will need to be bored out and an oversize pin made up, or the pin bores bushed back to standard.To stop this happening to a good head perhaps copper plate the pin ends to a tighter fit?.
