74 450 Scrambler Headlight

Postby graeme » Sat Jun 01, 2013 11:25 pm

Can anyone tell what headlight should a '74 450 scrambler have please.
150 or 130
I have seen the larger chrome shell that takes 150 lense also take the 130 lense by using a ring with a larger flange.
There is also different size flanged rings.
The very thin flange takes 150 lense, then 2 different size flanges for the 130 lense.
All very confusing????

(Always difficult with end-of-production machines, Graeme. But here goes ...)

I'll go for 150mm. Why?

Using information from various sources:

1. We know that a 1974 450 is a second series SCR. It should therefore have an Aprilia flat-backed chromed headlamp (refs: Massimo Clarke, Motociclsmo, contemporary Ducati literature, Amici dello Scrambler etc).

2. Now, if this unit is the same as was fitted to the Mark 3 and Desmo models, then its part number in the factory parts book is 0684.38.203. However, the parts list does not give the size of this unit, only of the earlier, cone-shaped unit (130mm).

3. However, the glass for this unit has part # 0445 38 275. Which, according to Andy Nienhagen's on-site catalogue, is 150mm.

Alternatively ...
The glass and reflector that the Amici sell for the Series 2 bikes measures ... 130mm.

:D
