narrow case gear shafts in wide case?
Can I use a mainshaft from a narrow case 250 in my wide case 450?

____ No... as all w-c.type mainshafts (as well as layshafts & forkshafts) are wider than their n-c counterparts by pretty-much the same added width-amount as the wider w-c.crankshaft & eng.case. _ So therefore such n-c parts are too short to fit & work within any 250/350/450 w-c.motor-case !
__ Needless to say (on the other-hand), such w-c parts are too wide to fit within any n-c motor-cases ! _ And also (concerning the transmission-parts), 1st.gear is also not interchangeable (between n-c & w-c).
