Round Monza tank and toolboxes- will trade

Postby Rick » Tue Oct 18, 2011 4:31 pm

It's doesn't seem right to come here looking for parts but go to Ebay to sell parts I don't need, so I'll offer them here. I don't really like to sell stuff, but would be interested in trading these Monza parts for 175/200 engine or frame parts- I'm willing to add cash to make the trade attractive.
The tank was once plated- mostly gone now, but has just a small dent- you can see my wife holding a razor blade over it. The toolbox cover has some dents that are hard to photograph- not bad, and 1 tear in the sheet metal at the bottom.
If you're interested, send a PM and we can talk on the phone.
I don't know what they're worth, so I can't answer a 'how much do you want' question- hoping to find a trade and avoid Ebay.

Rick, Do you know, or maybe Jon Pegler, or Eldert, or Giovanni does... are the early mototrans cases any different (other than the markings/serial # of course) than the early italian cases ?? If they are of any use, I have a pair of mototrans cases, they have the early square bolt pattern, from what I understand the only difference is the crankshaft stroke (as far as the bottom end i mean) I also have a 200 elite crank, a 4speed gearset for the cases, a useable but not perfect "a" type narrow crank pin, I have a few other early engine pieces too... none of it is perfect, most of it needs work. But everything is useable I think even the covers are (assuming you can weld alum. or have someone who can) I believe the timing cover has a chip in it, so does the shiftbox/cover. I know I have the primary gearset/clutch setup for the n/c 4-speed also, needs discs im sure, the primary gear on the clutch housing has one small nick out of the back tip of one gear tooth, I think its perfectly useable ive seen much worse. I guess let me know If you can use any of it, I would need to go over it all and look at it good. its just sitting in a box taking up space. I have basically an entire bottom end. just no cylinder, piston, or head. I think eldert has a head though, and giovanni has a cyl/jug. but dont quote me on that. Its probably worth selling, but is kind of useless to me, all of my projects are newer 5spd. n/c or w/c stuff. Im not really looking for any $$ out if it, I could use a trade for a part I need or something... let me know. (I actually posted about this before you may be able to get info from earlier posts, I bought this on ebay, and it was damaged in shipping hence why i said all the sidecovers need repaired)

Thanks Joe, I'll PM you about your parts, but first I'll investigate what might work for my project.

I'm fairly certain that the early 4-speed Mototrans cases are the same as the Italian ones in 175 and 200 capacity.
This only applies to the A type motors, not the B type 200 and 250 motors with the wider spacing to the head bolts.
The 5-speed Mototrans narrow case motors are quite different from the Italian 5=speed cases though.
Widecase Mototrans motors are very similar to Italian widecase motors with most parts interchangable.

Thanks Jon, I thought You and or Eldert had said something like that in the past when discussing this mototrans engine. It is an A type (4-speed, narrower crankshaft throws, and crank pin, narrow head bolt spacing...) Unfortunately the longer stroke mototrans crank I got with it is pretty much junk (at least 1/2 of it is anyway) But I did buy a semi-rough 200 elite crank seperately, and I also have 2 4-speed gear sets, and some other pieces. So I think I have enough pieces to come up with the majority of a 175/200 bottom end. One other thing I noticed about these engines, is that the timing advance unit (AAU), is identical physically to the italian AA359 unit (used only on the battery ignition models) This was in good shape, so I saved it out as well, since they are kind of hard to come by (compared to the aa367b bateryless ign model anyway) I was curious about who made these. There is no writing on it at all... But it does look identical otherwise to the AA359 unit.
