New Duc race bike meets Old one
Here is a photo of my 450D on a day- after- Christmas ride with my buddy's Desmosedici. I thought this pic gives a good perspective of how far Ducati has come. Dan

Sure the new one has speed and pretty plastic, but I'll take an old one any day just for the gorgeous Motor!

OK then, I'll take the other one!
I'm squinting away but can't see enough of the 450 front brake, not a Suzuki kettle stopper so perhaps something exotic?
Very nice picture, thanks for the post!

That's a Grimeca 230mm four leading shoe (4LS) drum brake.
They present 36 spoke holes in the hub so they are a natural match to Ducati rims. Short spokes required!
The Grimeca is around $600 to $700 a copy.
Available in black too:

Some people complain about the weight of the Grimeca (21 pounds/9.5Kg) but I have not seen a price on a featherweight magnesium 4LS Fontana drum in years. I would bet a Fontana would be in the US $3000 to $4000 dollar range.
The Grimeca can give you stopping power as well as that desired look of a race bike at the expense of weight but not costing you more than half of all the used motorcycles on your local Craigslist are selling for.

That is correct ref the Grimeca front brake. It is however more like $1200 now. I have no complaints about the weight, although it does feel like "too much" brake for a single sometimes. Can't beat the looks though. Dan
Fmcd92, you can see an up-close photo o the front brake in this post of mine:

Danii, at current exchange rates (12 January 2010) they are $660 (£410). I stock them in 3 colours
Plenty of bang for your buck so to speak with the Grimeca, but I've gone for the 230mm 2LS Oldani for my own 450Desmo to replace the original disc setup. I don't sell 'disc' stuff, but I do sell brake drums. That's the reason why the double disc setup on my 750GT is also being replaced by a 250mm Fontana 4LS when the weather warms up a bit.
thanks
Howard

OK, $660 I stand corrected. Did not know they were that cheap. I did not realized I had a replica. Maybe I should look into Oldani also. Dan

Re: New Duc race bike meets Old one
The Oldani 230MM is too rich for my blood @ $2400. Think I am going to have to stick with the stock 180mm Grimeca and eventually convert it to 2LS using the Duc Bits kit.

Here's the brake Howard supplied for my 250now350 Bitsa:
Now if I could just get time to start finishing the bikes instead of buying parts... (Says he guy who's been surfing the 'net for about 45 minutes now, instead of doing something productive...)
