New oil strainer finish

Postby graeme » Sun Jun 01, 2025 2:48 am

Watch out for new oil strainers that aren’t finished correctly.
The back side of the nut has two casting joins that need smoothing in a lathe to be flat and seal on the alloy washer.
And the plastic nose that fits into the right side case also needs a slight reduction to prevent it twisting when it is tightened and crushing the gauze.
Again it has casting lines and is too large to fit the oil hole in the right case.

Hi Graeme

there is something wrong with most aftermarked strainers . the ones from the Ducati vintage store are made of
very brittle material . they crack when overtightning .

Serraino sells 2 piece strainers . the problem is the strainer comes loose from the nut and people put the stainer back in

the problem is one side of the strainer is open and the other side is closed . i had to rebuild engines where they put the strainer
with the closed side facing the pump . what i do now is open up the other side of the strainer to

I remember Nigel pointing out a while ago that some aftermarket strainers had a coarser mesh too.
