Hi,
Does anybody know the exact dimensions of the chrome side panels on the Scrambler tank?
I measured it on my unrestored part which is badly repainted even with slightly different left and right side panels. Are these measurements correct?
Haven't found any more information regarding this.
Thank for help,
Ralf

Re: Scrambler 350 tank, dimensions chrome side panels
Sorry I can't help.
But am very interested because I am about to get my plain chrome tank painted.
Can anyone confirm the width of the pinstripe ? 3mm ?
Thanks.

Aye Ralf and Rossguzzi,
Have you seen this post on the forum?

I have asked if dimensions could be posted, but you might care to add your own posts to the thread?
Good health, Bill

Re: Scrambler 350 tank, dimensions chrome side panels
Hi,
Here's measurements from a scrambler tank off my '69 350 mark 3D. All original as far as I can tell. I needed to do this anyway to have a repro of the tank made, so this was a timely request.
Few comments:
1. Refer to the photos to see the measurements, A-R
2. I used a fabric tape measure laid flat on the surface so measurements take into account contour.
3. While these are probably "close enough" measurements, I do not claim them to be exact. Caveat emptor.
4. Looks like there may have been a pinstripe outline on the chrome panels at one point (?). It is faded to almost gone on my tank. If it is there, it is no more than 2mm in width.
Measurements:
A. 10cm
B. 11cm
C. 12cm
D. 10.8cm
E. 11cm
F. 7.5cm (to the point where the neck starts)
G. 8cm
H. 1.8cm
I. 1.8cm
J. 1.8cm
K. 1.8cm
L. 9.3cm
M. 9.5cm
N. 8.5cm (from the middle of line N to the center of the arch on the chrome: 3cm)
O. 30cm (the top of the chrome panel)
P. 25cm (the bottom of the chrome panel)
Q. 13.8cm
R. 8cm
Hope this helps.
Neal.

Thank you Neal for taking the time and making the effort to provide the comprehensive list of measurements for the areas of paint and pin-stripping on your tank.

@bill: thanks!
@Neal: Yes, this helps. At first glance I can see at least some differences between roughly 3mm to 10mm.

A lot of these operations would have been carried out by hand and variations of 3 to 10mm wouldn't be unusual. You will also note if you look at enough scrambler tanks the badges are not always level to each other or at the same height. It's like the bevel twins with painted on pinstripes, there can be a lot of variation in width and position. All depends whether the job was done in the morning or in the afternoon after a few glasses of wine

Also the same on yellow desmo single petrol tanks re the ducati decal and black stipes, I have had on one occasion three original unmolested standard (as from the works) tanks sitting together, none were exactly the same colour and none had the decals in exactly the same place, and in one case not even the same position on each side of the tank
Cheers,
George

Hello Rbier,
Interesting question you asked. Take care because there are few versions, and the dimensions you showed on the red tank picture you posted are not the most common. Maybe it depends on the dates and models. Here below a picture with a more common tank dimensions (genuine one from Mototrans Ducati 350 Scrambler)
