Hi Folks,
I have been lucky enough to acquire a 3 part engine/2 frame project of Ducati 160 Monza Juniors, and think i should be able to amass 2 decent engines give or take the odd part, and have some bits left over to play with. My plan is to make a classic twin shock trials bike out of one and a cafe racer /sprint bike out of the other.
Has anyone done any tuning work on these bikes?
Camshaft regrinds are possible via Joy Engineering but i believe lead times are frustrating and i dont know of anyone else, perhaps the 125ts cam is more aggressive and would fit?? The compression ratio is fairly low at 8.5:1 but is it possible to machine down the barrel to increase compression? One of the heads is badly chewed up from the head of a valve coming off, so whilst getting this repaired could have more metal welded in and machined down to reduce volume? Can't find any reference to higher compression standard pistons anywhere, unless you know differently.
Any advice or knowledge would be most appreciated.

Hi. I've got a 160 motor that's been "played" with. The barrel has been shortened, Oldham coupling to suit, it has Kawasaki valves with 7mm stems, guides to suit, Suzuki coil springs, gas flowed and a Amal 24mm carb on a handmade manifold. The exhaust is a modified 125 sport with a short reverse cone mega, straight through. I use a 12v alt but with points because I like them . I got a cam off a 125TS, Gio in Holland. It goes quite well. Pip Higham did the engine for me, top bloke

There is info on tuning a 160 in at least one of these books, I forget which one now though.

I had a 160 I planned on building an engine for. Ended up putting it back together pretty much stock though, the cost outweighted the benefit for me. I figured I'd save that time/money for a different single.
That different single has sat untoched for quite a few years now... I'm sure I'll get back to it someday!
