Front brake cable - 160 monza

Postby duck749 » Fri Apr 03, 2015 11:35 am

I am sending my cables out to get rebuilt, when taking the front brake cable off I found the 6mm Allen which screws into the housing was broke. Not to bad of an issue because I was able to remove the rest and run a chaser through the housing. This had me questioning the cable which was on there because the end which connects to the brake lever on the housing had a hoop. I assume this was done because of the broken 6mm piece. Question is, the nut which is captured into the lever arm, should this be soldered to the cable or have a hoop like the picture? Can someone send me a picture of your front brake lever at the wheel so I can see how the cable is suppose to be?

I was shocked when I saw this set up as well, I always thought that a solderless nipple was a temporary/emergancy repair, but purchasing new cables this seems to be the way that they are supplied. I have used two solderless nipples and also looped the wire as shown in the picture.
