Hello,
I see a few RT's with larger carbs and would like to know what manifold you are using to keep the carb away from the seat bracket on the frame?
I have an old 32 and manifold from a scrambler but it positions the carb right under the seat bracket making the choke cable very tight.
Phil at road and race used to have long straight manifolds that would be good but he doesn't have them now.
I'd like to fit a 36mm carb if I can get a suitable manifold.

The inlet stubs are steel, and can be made by someone with metalworking skill.
They are one part on a Ducati engine that actually looks like it was made by a backyarder.

Yes and very restrictive. That's why I'm asking.
I hadn't thought of making a steel manifold. Only thing is steel is hard to blend into shape.

The way Ducati (and others) did it:
To put a bend in a steel tube, cut a wedge from the side you want it to bend to. Size of wedge determines degree of bend. Don't cut all the way through - leave some metal to bend. Bend it closed and braze or weld shut. File bore smooth.
Resulting smoothness isn't too bad, but of course is better the less the bend.

Re: Inlet manifold for RT
Hi Graeme
sorry for the late reply but i did make a manifold for a 34 mm carb for a RT a while back .
the manifold is made up out of 3 pieces and there is a wedge in the middle .
i used aluminum . there was no room for the M8 nuts so i used turned down and tapered allan head bolts
to mount the manifold to the cilinderhead .
i also removed the seatbracket . original it is located in between the framerails and there is a spacer under the seat .
i put the bracket on top of the frame rails and used a 2 mm spacer . this gave me about a 1/2 inch
more room for the carb and throttle and choke cables

Re: Inlet manifold for RT
Thank you Eldert,
It's never too late for your advice.
I used the 32 and manifold I had from the Scrambler, but I wish I had moved the seat bracket to the top of the frame rails, that would have saved heaps of mucking around. Next time.
Do you have any advice fitting a larger manifold and carb to a 450 Scrambler with the 450 frame gusseting? These are very tight.
