Electrical Help Needed

Fantastic news! I have the same system on my 350 n/c and it’s light years ahead of the original… however you are right the connectors supplied are pants! I swapped mine for waterproof plugs and hopefully no issues…
I had a similar thing on my old 900 trident… engine cutting out on one cylinder every now and then… just a connector on the coil… it just goes to show it’s usually something simple!

I knew it was too good to be true; went out to the garage this morning and there is no spark!!!

I have just about had enough. I don't know whether to start buying replacement components, or a complete new system, but I may have trouble fitting the new type onto the Forza frame as there is very limited room under the tank. The trouble with replacement parts is that it is more expensive to do it that way and I could end up buying the whole thing in stages. Electrex World said that the CDI unit is not repairable anyway, although my guess is that the pulser ring is faulty, because the LED is not working, but I know power is getting to the pulser ring.

I may ring Nigel on Monday and see what he thinks.

Give me a call on Monday, the parts may well still be covered by warranty and we can go through logically replacing parts/ trouble shooting. When removing the plug (if the casing is not the later slotted type) do not cut the wires off, rather use a pin to remove all the pins from the block and slide them through the hole in the cover. The parts can then be returned and tested.

Electrex have a policy that if you chop or change the plugs then the warranty is void (as marked on the packaging). A little harsh, but I can appreciate how difficult it must be proving who's to blame for failure once components have been chopped/modified. I can understand some may decide to change connectors, but unfortunately you are your own in doing so. If you think there is an issue then maybe take it up with Electrex first, with a reason.

If anyone experiences fitting difficulties regards location of components due to wire length, maybe due to model differences or just in general, It is best to contact them first to discuss issues and most likely they will advise or could arrange modification.

Bob is the Electronics/technical guy at electrex and generally is there only on Tuesday, so best call on a Tuesday for him.

True to form, I kicked the engine over today, and the sparks are back! How can they come and go from day to day? Must surely be a magnetism issue somewhere? Watch this space.

Magnetism doesn't come and go, more likely heat/dodgy connection related in a component.

Why not get rid of the stupid multi-pin connector, and solder all wires together?

Not withstanding Nigel's earlier comment about the warranty, I am not sure that the problem lies with the multi-point connector; continuity checks out ok, and I can't see why one day there are sparks and the next none, when I have not touched anything. I may need to figure out a way of removing the multi-point connector and temporarily joining the wires in order to eliminate it from the investigation.

Patience man, patience! Nigel, no doubt, is trying his best to assist.

Wild cut and shut operations and random poking will no diagnose the problem. Step by step, looky looky, will catch the monkey.

It reads as though there is an intermittent break down of continuity in the circuit/s and the only way to diagnose that is by allowing the manufacturer to test each individual component. It is for all our benefit that the fault can be found as Electrex may have just a rogue component, or a batch and unless they can diagnose this more intermittent yet related faults could occur and the pattern not found and rectified.

Not wild and random - radical and focussed!

Intermittent faults are surely the most vexing.
Connector pin removers might help pull connectors apart.
